Cheetos for dinner? Yes please!
The best ideas come when you can tap into a cultural phenomenon, and that’s just what we did with the first ever Cheetos restaurant, The Spotted Cheetah. We took a note from Cheetos brand lovers and created a fully immersive Cheetos restaurant with carefully crafted dishes from Chef Anne Burrell. To say it was a success would be an understatement. The restaurant sold out on Open Table in 6.5 hours with over 8500 tables waitlisted. Not only that, we also captured over 4 billion impressions and even had a surprise guest appearance from Mariah Carey.

The Spotted Cheetah was such a hit with Cheetos lovers that we had to do it again, but this time we made it even hotter. The Flamin’ Hot Spot popped up in LA featuring Flamin’ Hot Cheetos recipes by Chef Roy Choi. We amped up the experience with instagrammable features as well as an interactive AR wall. Celebs flocked to experience The Flamin’ Hot Spot. With a sold out restaurant in less than one hour and nearly 10,000 people on the waitlist, it’s safe to say it was fire.

After a streak of some pretty successful Cheetos programs, the bar for creating cultural mischief was high. We needed another “is this real?” moment. So we thought, why not help Cheetos hijack the world’s largest winter athletic event (that we can’t say the name of)? So, how do you hijack an event that you are not an official sponsor of? Well, by sponsoring the underdogs, the USA Curling Team. Chester Cheetah, the king of cheese curls, was ready to give some needed support to the quirkiest sport in the event. We announced the partnership on social and then released the ultimate show of support to rally Americans —a music video featuring singer and choreographer, Todrick Hall. The best part—the USA Curling team won “1st place” for the first time ever!

After 25 years of success using only word-of-mouth to obtain new clients, Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation wanted to take their business to the next level through broader brand awareness. Our team created a campaign that broke through the monotony of the mortgage industry by bringing humor to the forefront.

Topgolf came to us looking for a new fall campaign to help redefine their image as more than just a place to play golf. We developed “Big Hits Live Here,” a campaign highlighting their new fall promotions and events through meme culture to create fun and energy around any night out at Topgolf.

Doritos lives “For the Bold,” so that’s why we partnered with the summer’s biggest action blockbuster, Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom, to bring a bold experience with every bag of Doritos. We created a 360-program to track and rescue dinosaurs for the chance to win some epic prizes. The promotion website featured an interactive map where consumers could explore Isla Nublar, as well as play a custom side scroll game, escaping obstacles in a geosphere. The game gained massive popularity, being played over 350,000 times during the promotion! On top of supporting the program through packaging, POS and social, we also created a Jurassic-sized Doritos chip at 12” tall for PR. The chip was teased and released with a dramatic spot featuring Dr. Henry Wu, and our actual Jurassic Doritos were sent to influencers for some amusing unboxing.

Knowing that Cheetos lovers are extremely passionate about showing their love of Cheetos to just about everyone on social, we decided to tap into that passion during the holiday season, a time of the year when Cheetos didn’t normally have a place to play. However, Cheetos is not just some ordinary brand, so we opened the first-ever Cheetos Store to give the gift of seriously stylish fashion to those you love—and loving yourself counts too;) To say it was a success is an understatement. The store almost completely sold out—including a $20K jewelry set. I know, right?! This program paved the way for Cheetos to become more than just a cheesy snack.

No one can mistake the cheesy, bright orange, weirdly-shaped nature of Crunchy Cheetos, but we found that many may ponder on what that shape actually is. In the spirit of bringing all things mischievous to snacking, we asked our consumers “What do you see in your Cheetos?” Thus began a unique museum to house all these peculiar shapes, names and stories —The Cheetos Museum. The program was so successful that we brought it back for Halloween and asked consumers to create their very own Cheetos Monsterpiece.

There’s no doubt that Halloween is one of the most mischievous holidays of the year. But how could Cheetos play in a holiday that is ruled by candy? Bring more mischief of course! Introducing Cheesy Good Fortunes—fortunes told by Chester Cheetah himself, right in the palm of your hand. By simply scanning the Snapchat code on packaging, consumers were able to trigger an AR experience in their current environment where Chester appeared to give them a mischievous little fortune. After their fortune was read, they could swipe up to our website where they could enter a bag code to receive another fortune that could result in some big money.
How’s that for a Halloween treat?!
